Abstract

In this paper we have attempted to bring out the various categories of child labour persisting in India. Then the major sectors where the children are susceptible to be engaged and have been engaging are also discussed in this explorative cum survey based study. The major sectors include agriculture, industrial and domestic sectors. In our country about 40 % of child labour are performing as agrarian labourers, 32 % as farm cultivators and 28 % in other areas of industrial and domestic work as per the 2011 census. Classification of child labour based on Geographic and health risk aspect is also made in this study. Various categories of child labour such bonded, daily wage, domestic, child labour, self-employed, street and migrant child labour are discussed to have a comprehensive approach to the issue and to suggest policy measures for eradication of the issue from India.
