SPAIN'S EMPATHY FOR GAZA AS A MODEL FOR THE WORLD AND THE COMMUNITIES MECHANISM

Abstract

This paper explores the historical and contemporary dynamics of Spanish empathy and support for Palestine, analyzing the evolution of bilateral relations and public sentiment in Spain towards Palestinian issues in order to replicate this relationship with other countries or communities. By reviewing historical documents, media reports, and current events, the paper illustrates how Spain’s solidarity with Palestine has developed over the decades, influenced by political, cultural, and social factors. The study highlights key events that led to this unique empathetic buildup with the Palestinian cause despite Spain being a European country. Various phases of Spanish aid have been increasing, and public activism in response to conflicts in Gaza has been investigated. The authors also examine Spanish empathy's impact on the ground, showcasing how media portrayal and cultural affinity contribute to the Spanish public’s stance. Through a methodological approach combining historical analysis and media studies, this research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors driving Spanish support for Palestinian sovereignty and rights, offering insights into the broader context of international relations and humanitarian advocacy that can be capitalized on the Free-Plaestine Journey.
