Abstract

The way employees used to carry out their work has been changed since the development of technology and digitalization and then along came the pandemic COVID-19 that accelerated the alternation to the typical work environment leading to the norm of “Remote Working” sometimes referred to as teleworking, working from home and flexible work arrangements that enable employees to do their jobs from a location other than the physical workspace. Research has indicated that working remotely has several advantages and challenges for employees. Individuals who have engaged in remote work have demonstrated improvements in their job satisfaction and job performance but there is also risk involved to physical and psychological health of employees as for the absence of face-to-face interactions Several effects of working remotely on wellbeing of the employees have been mentioned in previous studies but the results are conflicted. Thus, the aim of this paper is to have a better understanding of the association between working remotely and its impact on employee well-being by exploring the previous research papers to map the conflicting views on this topic and to present a better picture for the future research in this area.
