Keywords:
Empathy, War On Gaza, Palestine, Solidarity With Gaza, Empathic EngagementAbstract
This paper explores the nature of empathy as exhibited globally towards Gaza, particularly in the context of the war in 2023. It explores the intricate emotional and behavioural responses elicited by the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises in Gaza. The study emphasises empathy as a potent tool or currency, influencing both emotional reactions and tangible actions, underscoring its role in cultural sensitivity and global solidarity. A comprehensive review of empathy’s dynamics in various contexts is presented, highlighting its impact on psychological wellbeing and its potential in conflict resolution. The research focuses on the triggers of empathy towards Gaza, examining perspectives from Arab, developing, African, and Western countries. It also investigates the age demographics influencing empathy levels and the increasing pro-Palestine sentiment worldwide. Utilising qualitative research and content analysis, this study conducts a thematic analysis of social media content to unravel the expressions and patterns of empathy towards Gaza. By analysing attitudes and behaviours indicative of empathy, the research offers insights into the depth of global empathy for Palestine, particularly Gaza, amidst political and social challenges. The findings reveal a profound sense of empathy manifested in various forms that can be further strategically developed as a key element in the journey towards a free Palestine. The paper emphasises considering empathy as a strong resistance weapon that enhances both the psychological resilience of the Palestinians and supports their resistance movements. This paper contributes to realising and sustaining the flow of empathy towards Gaza and Palestine (since the War 2023).
