IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in technical education is the mode of system that usage of ICT to support, enhance and optimise the delivery of information through teaching to the students. Worldwide research has shown that ICT can lead to an improved student learning and better teaching methods. Therefore, the teaching faculty in the technical education institutions like polytechnic colleges is the key role players in this regard. This main aim of this study is to analyze the importance of ICT in technical education. For this the perceptions of teaching faculty in polytechnic colleges on effectiveness of ICT integration to support teaching and learning practices in technical education institutions have been collected with a questionnaire and analysed. Moreover, the study found most teachers think ICT integration is effective, but ICT tools provided in technical education institutions are not enough nor in good condition. The results indicate that ICT integration has great effectiveness for both teachers and students. Findings indicate that teachers' well-equipped preparation with ICT tools and facilities is one of the main factors in the success of technology-based teaching and learning. The results from the study revealed that the relationship between usage level of ICT tools by teaching faculty and its effectiveness on their teaching-learning practices in polytechnic colleges indicate higher the usage of ICT tools by teaching faculty leads to more effectiveness in their teaching-learning practices in polytechnic colleges.
