Abstract

This case study investigates the ‘Non-financial Wealth’ of communities in general, with more focus on one of the districts in Rwanda called Nyagatare. The paper shows the different resources available in a community and how to re-engineer it using the cooperatives to optimise the return on this wealth and engage the community. Based on the case study, a framework is proposed to enhance the capacity of community leaders to exploit non-financial wealth in order to solve socioeconomic problems, instead of being dependent on external financial resources.
