Abstract

Strengthening the resilience to climate change in drought areas is becoming a necessity for any government and community development program. In a review of two case studies from East Africa, the authors analyse the best practices in the mitigation of drought impact on livestock water infrastructures to drive the best practices for possible mitigations for climate change. The paper investigates how water for livestock is being ensured in the face of climate change challenges depending on the areas, and how the repeated incidents could be mitigated so that the livestock are adequately fed even during drought season. The implication of the paper shows that maximizing the engagement of livestock keepers in the management or the maintenance of the operations of water infrastructures would enhance the capacity of the countries, or the communities to maintain their socioeconomic development programs even during the climate change conditions.
