Large manufacturing companies work with large workforces, in a single or multiple locations, with a high dependency on technological inputs via processes, equipment, and round-the-clock operations. From time to time, these companies undertake large-scale initiatives to ‘reinvent’ themselves, where they review and modernise their work practices so as to meet the current and future needs essential to keep abreast of the changes in business conditions over time. In this paper, we discuss the role of the Malcolm Baldrige Model for Performance Excellence (MBMPE) together with the eight-step method of John Kotter to carry out organisational transformations in large manufacturing companies across the globe. The paper is in three parts: the age of TQM, the age of Business Excellence (BE) and Industry 4.0.
