Abstract

This research paper delves into the intricate relationship between power dynamics and their management in indigenous knowledge systems. It examines how power relations are managed and influence the recognition, transmission, and preservation of indigenous knowledge drawing on critical theories such as postcolonialism, and decoloniality. Through a comprehensive literature review, the paper explores global contexts while specifically focusing on examples from India. It elucidates the historical legacy of colonialism’s impact on indigenous knowledge systems, highlighting the suppression of indigenous voices and the imposition of Western epistemologies. Additionally, the paper analyzes power dynamics in knowledge production processes, shedding light on the marginalization of indigenous knowledge within Adivasi communities and the challenges faced in the transmission and preservation. Furthermore, it discusses movements and legal frameworks aimed at empowering indigenous knowledge systems and rectifying historical injustices. By critically engaging with these issues, the paper advocates for the marginalized voices and the promotion of a decolonized approach to knowledge production and preservation.
