Abstract

Optical time domain reflectometer is measure transmission losses in single mode fiber using Rayleigh scattering principal. This has been done by developed the wave equation for the current density free environment for a cylindrical system coordinate. When we are applying elastic scattering from microscopic inhomogeneity in glass fiber, we get density fluctuation, refractive index fluctuation and microscopic defect in glass fiber structure, to measuring the fiber losses. Learn how to measured spice losses and Fresnel reflection from the far end of fiber in OTDR (Optical time domain reflectometer). Worked on semiconductor laser pulsed diode. Why it is use in optical transmission source in single mode fiber channel? Showing the application of avalanche photo diode is use as a detector for measuring the loss in the fiber. .overall approach was to realize the optical time domain reflectometer using selected components like pulse generator, emitting diode, coupler, amplifier and time base control unit and photodiode detectors.
