Abstract

The aim of this report is to develop a sewage sludge recovery unit for the STEP (wastewater treatment plant) located in the Camp SIC (Cameroon Real Estate Company) housing estate. The sludge will undergo bio-digestion to produce methane and will be composted with sawdust to produce compost. To accomplish this goal, we initially needed to measure the quantity of sludge generated at the plant and subsequently dimension the biodigester, drying bed, and shredder. This report demonstrates that the plant generates 249kg of sludge per day. The biodigester, with a dimensioned volume of 13.4m³ and a useful volume of 6.23m³, is capable of producing 87.15m³ of methane per day after purification. The compost, obtained after drying in ten beds, occupies an area of 455m². The estimated composting rate is 150kg per day. Shredding, prior to composting, is conducted using a hammer mill with a shredding chamber volume of 0.042m³ and a motor torque of 269.66N.
