Abstract

OpenAI's ChatGPT, which was made available to the public in November 2022, has inspired a significant amount of discussion over the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in a variety of disciplines, including the business world, the academic world, and life in general. A key step forward in the development of artificial intelligence technology is the creation of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) applications. Some examples of these applications include ChatGPT, Jasper, and DALL-E. This is because these programs are simple to use, have an intuitive interface, and perform exceptionally well. An extensive range of information, including texts, images, music, code, and even videos, can be generated with the help of GAI. Not only does this have an impact on business model innovation (BMI), but it also has a variety of other ramifications for companies that need to be investigated further. Therefore, this study provides a BMI perspective on GAI, with two primary contributions: (1) the development of six comprehensive propositions outlining the impact of GAI on businesses, and (2) the discussion of three industry examples, specifically software engineering, healthcare, and financial services. Both of these contributions are presented in this study. Both of these contributions are of great importance.
